SUFFERING FROM ANXIETY?

If you identify with any of the following signs and symptoms, and you feel as though they will never end, you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder:

  • Are you constantly tense, worried, fearful, or on edge throughout your daily life?

  • Does your emotional state interfere with your responsibilities such as work, school, or family?

  • Do you find yourself more irritable or feeling like your mind has gone blank at times?

  • Do you succumb to fears you know are irrational, but are unable to shake?

  • Do you believe a bad outcome is imminent if certain things aren’t done a certain way?

  • Do you avoid normal everyday situations or activities, such as dinner with friends because they cause you to feel stressed?

  • Have you ever experienced a sudden, unexpected attack of heart-pounding panic?

  • Are you worried there are dangers and catastrophes lurking around every corner?

Anxiety can affect you in several emotional ways, however, anxiety is more than just an emotional reaction. Our bodies are programmed with a fight-or-flight response causing anxiety to express itself in a wide range of physical symptoms, including:

  • Pounding heart

  • Sweating

  • Headaches

  • Stomach upset

  • Dizziness

  • Frequent urination or diarrhea

  • Shortness of breath

  • Muscle tension or twitches

  • Shaking or trembling

  • Insomnia

Anxiety sufferers often mistake their disorder for medical illnesses such as the flu, due to the many physical ailments. Many people visit more than one doctor before finally having their anxiety recognized.

HOW DOES ANXIETY BEGIN?

Far too often, we are told anxiety is ‘in our head’.  Often blamed on an imbalance of chemicals and hormones, and we are led to believe that by simply changing our thinking, or taking yet another pill we can relieve anxiety symptoms.

Your gut plays a larger role in anxiety than you may know.

The gut is referred to as the “second brain”, where 95% of the body’s serotonin and other neurotransmitters are made. One of the causes of anxiety and depression is a neurotransmitter imbalance. An unhealthy gut environment results in a decrease in the number of neurotransmitters being supplied to the brain.

The brain relies on good fats, amino acids, trace minerals, and B-vitamins to function optimally, which means that proper amounts of good quality foods need to enter the gut, absorb, and metabolize.

Other organs and hormones in your body can also affect your mood. Anxiety symptoms can be brought on by organ dysfunction, such as an overworking or underworking thyroid or adrenal gland.

Immune challenges such as parasites can cause anxiety, as well as depression, as they steal your nutrients from the food you are eating, and they excrete toxins that poison your system.

NUTRITIONAL TREATMENT FOR ANXIETY

There is only one way to know for sure what is causing your anxiety – a comprehensive test that looks at all the organs and systems in your body to discover any underlying nutritional or functional dysfunction.

HOW DOES THE OAKDALE WELLNESS CENTER HANDLE ANXIETY?

Anxiety can be debilitating to one’s daily life and we work with you to heal the root cause of the problem, your gut health.

We start with a form of muscle testing called Nutrition Response Testing.  This enables us to test different areas of your body in order to define which are not performing as they should.

Through this testing, we can identify nutritional deficiencies and make a supplement plan that works with your body and is personalized to your needs. The supplements we use are not synthetics – they are all real, whole-food supplements. If you, or someone you know, needs help dealing with symptoms of anxiety, please call The Oakdale Wellness Center today.
